RNLI: Lenny & The Lifeboat Crew

Writing and illustrating a children’s book about lifeboats and water safety was a very personal project for me as I feel passionate about the work of the RNLI, both in terms of their practical rescue work and their mission to educate people about water safety.

The project aims to facilitate conversations about water safety between parents and children, with the perfect opportunity for this being bathtime. Therefore, printing the book on waterproof paper and binding with plastic is a fundamental part of the concept. The book comes as part of a set which is designed to be as interactive as possible, including fold-out book pages, bath toys and a lifejacket whistle. Whilst the topic of water safety is a serious subject, the book tackles it in a way which is appropriate for 3-6 year olds, with a rhyming story and collaged illustration.

With over 160 RNLI shops in the UK and Ireland, this pack has great potential to reach thousands of children at a crucial point in their understanding of how to stay safe around water.
